ATLANTA, Ga. - #11 Berry Vikings Volleyball (22-4 overall) blew past Maryville College (16-14 overall) in day one of the Emory National Invitational, 3-0.
The beginning of the first set started with a battle between the Vikings and the Scots as they traded points. Tied at 4-4, Berry came alive going on a 10-0 run where 5 of the points were sponsored by Maryville errors and
Bella Boston's two kills. At 14-1 the Scots were unable to climb back in the first set and Boston ended it at 25-16.
In the second, Maryville refused to be shutout as both teams went on a few runs and found themselves tied at the 16th point. After four lead changes, the Vikings decided it was time to put the Scots away with a 5-0 run that made it difficult for their opponent to answer at 22-18.
Cypress Guenther sparked the final second set rally with a kill assisted by
Lindsey MacDiarmid, the teams leader with 23 on the game.
Berry owned the final set with 12 total kills, almost as many as the Scots final points (13). The Vikings continued to be dominant and finished the sweep of Maryville with a 25-13 final set win.Â
The Vikings are back in action tomorrow against Washington and Lee and #5 Emory University for a showdown rematch at 10:00 AM and 4:45 PM ET.Â
