The No.24-ranked Berry Vikings continued Southern Athletic Association road play on Saturday afternoon defeating Sewanee 61-23. The rushing game put up just under 500 total yards on the day, 225 coming from
Brandon Cade and 181 from
Colby Sikes.
On the second drive of the game,
Jake Whitten came up with an interception for Berry at the Sewanee 25, which was quickly cashed in by Sikes running it in for 19 yards. The Tigers lacked any answers for the Berry run game as Cade and company marched down the field to add their second touchdown of the day.
          Â
Nick Willis intercepted the ball and brought it to the Sewanee 35, giving the Vikings great field position once again. Sikes only needed three plays to capitalize, bringing the score to 20-0. The Tigers were able to put seven on the board to start the second quarter, but Sikes kept rolling alongside the offense, answering Sewanee with a 68-yard dash to the endzone on the first play of the drive.
The Viking offense started to turn to the passing game in the second quarter when
Nate Lyons caught a 23-yard pass on a third and five situation. Cade ran in his second touchdown of the day to make it 33-7. Before the end of the half, Hembree connected with
Eli Warrington for 32 yards down field, putting the Vikings in Tiger territory. Sikes once again rolled past the Sewanee defense for a 27-yard touchdown which put Berry up 40-16 at the half.
To start the third quarter the Tigers got the ball to start, but the opportunity was dismantled by the Viking defense; Cole Carver and
Michael Clark contributed a solo sack each on the same drive. Later in the quarter, the Tigers were forced to punt the ball which found its way to Lyons who then returned the ball for a 66-yard touchdown.
To start the fourth quarter, the Tigers found the endzone for the final time, but Berry's
Cade Petty immediately answered with a 72-yard kickoff return for another touchdown. With 10 minutes remaining in duration, Cade burst through traffic for an 80-yard touchdown, his third of the day which also concluded the scoring for Berry.
