Berry's women's tennis team is set to face off against the undefeated, nationally ranked Sewanee Tigers in another Southern Athletic Association matchup at the Rome Tennis Center this Saturday at 1 p.m.
In the dual, the Vikings are looking to keep their SAA win streak alive and secure a chance at the SAA regular season conference championship. Berry would still need to defeat Centre College Sunday in order to sweep the weekend and earn a regular season title.
In five conference matches, the Vikings have won with a combined score of 41-4. The first three matches were sweeps of Oglethorpe, Rhodes, and Hendrix. Playing in five matches, the Tigers have won their conference matches by a combined score of 43-2. Given the scores, the matchup could be a close competition between the Vikings and Tigers.
In order to secure the win, the Vikings will be looking to senior
Allison Ivey to have another outstanding performance. In conference play, Ivey is undefeated through three singles matches and is 8-1 overall. Throughout the season, Ivey has put up impressive set results, including her most recent singles 6-0, 6-1 win against Birmingham-Southern College. Ivey, along with her doubles partner
Juliana Mascagni, have also put up stellar performances in line one of the doubles matches.
Historically, Sewanee has been a successful program for the last decade. Going into the weekend, they are looking to capture their eighth regular season SAA title. In the preseason, the Tigers were voted to win the conference. At the moment, the Tigers are ranked No. 7 in all of D-III. The Tigers also feature four players receiving weekly conference honors, with freshmen Alice Hall and Brooke Despriet winning multiple.
This weekend will be a big test for the Vikings, as one undefeated team will walk away being the likely regular season champions. The Vikings will also have to face Centre this Sunday at the RTC. The Colonels are currently 3-2 in SAA play with losses to Rhodes and Sewanee.
