One-Goal Contest Slips Away from Berry

After trailing 5-2 at halftime, Berry's men's lacrosse team scored six third quarter goals to take the lead on the road, but the Vikings ultimately fell to Rhodes, 10-9, in Southern Athletic Association play from Memphis, Tenn., Sunday afternoon.

Rhodes started the game off hot, scoring two straight before Michael McKenzie was able to score with 1:19 left in the first quarter to cut the game to one, 2-1.

The Lynx would continue to fire on all cylinders outscoring the Vikings 3-1 in the second with the lone goal for BC coming from Ethan Perlakowski. The halftime score would read 5-2.

Berry would come out hot in the 3rd scoring two straight from Joey Cuthbert and Ethan Perlakowski. Rhodes would score one more but the Vikings would answer with three goals coming from a Olson Burgoyne, Joey Cuthbertand Tyler Banfield. Both Berry and Rhodes would score one more before the end of the quarter as the score would be 8-7 in favor of the Vikings heading to the final 15 minutes.

The Lynx would tie things back up in under a minute into the 4th, however Jackson Blaylock would respond and give the Vikings a one goal lead with 7:50 remaining. After Rhodes tied the score soon after the next faceoff, both teams would enter a defensive standoff, with good looks offensively both ways. Ultimately, the Lynx (2-9, 2-0 SAA) gained the lead entering the final minute of play soon after killing a Berry man-advantage opportunity.

The Vikings (6-5, 1-3) would get two shots off on their final possession, but a save as the clock wound under 15 seconds would give Rhodes the ball back for the win.

RJ Maraski had 11 saves in goal for the Vikings in the loss.

Berry will continue their road trip next Saturday as they travel to play the Tigers of Sewanee. Face-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EDT.
