Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | by Jason Hanes

Vikings in Seventh Heaven with Goal Outburst

A six-goal barrage in the second half helped Berry's men's soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Millsaps in Southern Athletic Association play from Jackson, Miss., Sunday afternoon.

Only one goal was scored in the first half as Berry would catch a break to get on the board. A simple low pass towards the box by the Vikings went off the foot of a Millsaps (2-10-1, 0-4) defender and angled into the back of the net for an own goal, putting the Vikings on top.

While Berry (6-2-3, 2-2 SAA) would be fortunate with the first goal, the other six all came straight from the Vikings, with Nathan Carlson playing a major role in the first two. In the 49th minute, Carlson would surge forward with the ball towards the byline before centering along the ground for Jacob Antoine. Two seasons after a four-goal outing in Mississippi, Antoine would finish the cross with a smooth shot into the back of the net for a 2-0 BC lead.

Five minutes later, Carlson's spot-on passing led to his second assist of the game. He would send a through ball ahead over 40 yards to Tracy Moon. Moon would collect, then dribble inside the box and fire a low shot past the goalkeeper's right, making it 3-0 for BC.

Just past the hour mark, the Vikings found the scoreboard again. Charlie Stokes pushed up from the left wing spot and sent a cross to Nate Dulin. Dulin's one-touch shot would soar by the Millsaps keeper and into the back of the net for a 4-0 lead.

The score stayed the same until the final 10 minutes of the contest when the Vikings netted three more tallies. Ryan Antoine would very unselfishly find Ryan Stevenson wide open on the right side of the box. The freshman would collect for his first career goal in the 82nd minute, making it 5-0.

Five minutes later, Brock Schoultz would find James Tribe streaking down the middle of the field. Tribe would dribble into the box and pass the ball into the net for a six-pack of Berry goals.

The seventh goal would come soon after Millsaps restarted the match. With 79 seconds left in the contest, Ian Bacchus pushed the ball towards the left side of the Millsaps box. He would then find Ben Hauke 12 yards away from goal, with the freshman driving a shot past the goalkeeper's left and into the corner of the goal, capping the scoring at 7-0 for BC.

The Vikings will return to action this Friday at Bob Pearson Field against Rhodes in SAA play. Opening kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
