Playing on their home pitch for the first time this season, one that started with seven road matches in a row, the Berry men's soccer team clearly felt right at home.
Thanks to three first half goals and airtight defense, the Vikings shut out visiting Sewanee on Saturday afternoon at Pearson Field by winning their Southern Athletic Conference opener 3-0 that improves Berry to 6-2 overall.
Heading up the offensive outburst in the opening 45 minutes was sophomore
Nathan Carlson, who was part of all three scores.
The first goal came two minutes later Carlson came up with the assist when he fed a pass to
Zachary Ernst who found the back of the net.
With just over seven minutes left in the first half, Carlson struck again, this time on a penalty kic.
The Vikings ended the afternoon outshooting the Tigers 11-3 with six shots on goal, while Berry prevented Sewanee from getting any SOG.
Berry goalkeepers José Palacios,
Lukas Haritos and
Grant Houpert combined for shutout.
The Vikings repack their bags for their next outing, this time a trip to Danville, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 2 when they face SAA foe Centre.
