No. 10 Softball Wins Doubleheader at Sewanee

Sewanee, Tenn. – The No. 10 Berry softball team improved to 8-1 on Saturday after defeating Sewanee 6-5 in game one and 15-0 in game two.

Madison Hollis got the start, pitching five innings. Shirley Sharp (1-1) came in during the sixth for Hollis and gave up zero runs and struck out one batter to help the Vikings secure the 6-5 win.

Berry scored first in the first inning and extended their lead to 5-0 in the second. Sewanee quickly responded and scored five runs to make it a 5-5 game. A single from Bayleigh Masterson got things started for the Vikings in the seventh. Patience at the plate and smart baserunning gave Berry the 6-5 lead. Sharp and the Viking defense held the Tigers to maintain the lead and win.

Masterson led the Vikings with three hits and Aleeya Thornton and Riley Jackson each had two.

Meredith Holland (3-0) started game two for Berry, pitching four innings, giving up just one hit, zero runs and struck out nine batters. Emily Schechter came in as relief for Holland in the fifth.

The bats were hot for Berry, as they connected with 14 hits and 15 runs. R. Jackson sent one over in the first to put the Vikings up 4-0 early over the Tigers. Jackson led the Vikings with three hits and four RBI.
