Jackson, MS. – The Berry College softball team split the doubleheader at Belhaven on Saturday, dropping the first game 8-1 and claiming the second game with a 14-3 win.
In game one,
Madison Hollis got the start and was dealt her first loss of the season, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits and six runs.
Shirley Sharp came in for Hollis and pitched the remainder of the game, giving up two runs on four hits.
Berry scored their only run of the game in the fourth following a home run from
Meghan Hunt.
Game two was a more of the Vikings' speed, as they connected on 16 hits for 14 runs, defeating Belhaven 14-3.
The Vikings struck first and went up 3-0 in the first. They held Belhaven scoreless until the third inning when they scored two of their three runs. The final run for Belhaven came in the fourth inning.
Meredith Holland got the start in the circle and improved to 4-0 on the season. She pitched five innings and struck out six batters, giving up three runs on four hits.
Emily Schechter came in for relief and only gave up one hit.
Hunt,
Bayleigh Masterson,
Morgan Frye and
Samantha Crabtree each had three hits, with Masterson tallying four RBI and a homerun in the outing.
The Vikings are back in action this weekend as they travel to Birmingham to take on the Panthers of BSC.
