Danville, Ky – The Berry College baseball team traveled to Kentucky for their second weekend of conference play, winning three of the four games.
Ben Coker got the start in game one, pitching four innings and giving up three runs on six hits. Coker struck out seven batters in his outing.
Will Macolino (1-0) earned the win after coming in for relief for Coker, pitching five innings, giving up one run on just two hits and striking out three.
Zach Huie led the Vikings with three hits, followed by
Zack Walch,
Jack Poist and
Levi Cloud who each recorded two. Berry defeated Centre 9-4.
The one loss on the weekend came in game two when the Vikings fell 5-0.
Patrick O'Rourke (2-1) got the start and was dealt his first loss of the season, pitching five innings and giving up four runs off four hits, striking out seven.
Spence Johns,
Tyler Calvert and
Dalton Smith each connected with one hit.
The Vikings took game three of the series, 11-7, connecting with 12 hits to Centre's six.
Garret West got the start, pitching three innings and giving up two runs on just one hit, striking out three.
Mason Carnes earned his third save of the year, coming in to pitch the last two innings, giving up zero hits and striking out two.
Centre scored first, going up 2-0 early in the game, but the Vikings' offense quickly answered back, scoring three in the second following a homerun from Calvert and a double from both Cloud and Smith.
Berry expanded their lead 9-2, but Centre closed the gap a bit in the fourth and fifth inning, making it a 9-7 game going into the sixth.
A throwing error from the Colonels and a single from Calvert increased Berry's lead to 11-7 and would secure the win for the Vikings.
It was another offensive battle in game four, but Berry was able to walk away with a 9-6 win.
Tanner Still started for the Vikings, pitching just over five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.
Will Marquart earned his first win of the season, coming in to pitch the last three innings, giving up zero hits and striking out two.
John Poist led with three hits, while Walch, Johns and Smith each added two.
The Vikings are back in action this weekend when they travel to Rhodes for a four-game conference series.
