Memphis, Tenn. – The Berry baseball team traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the Lynx on Rhodes over the weekend for another conference showdown, winning three of the four games. Berry improves to 20-4 overall and 10-2 in SAA play.
In game one, the Vikings defeated the Lynx 7-5.
Ben Coker got the start on the mound, pitching 7.1 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and striking out two.
Mason Carnes (1-0) came in for Coker, earning his first win of the season, pitching 1.2 innings, giving up one hit and zero runs.
Offensively,
Tyler Calvert led the way for the Vikings going 2-4 at the plate with three RBI and a home run.
Jack Poist and
John Poist also connected with two hits.
Berry took game two 5-4, with
Patrick O'Rourke (3-1) getting the start and Carnes coming in to earn his fourth save. O'Rourke pitched for five innings, giving up four runs and striking out three. Carnes gave up zero hits and zero runs.
Will Macolino also had an outing at the mound, pitching one inning and giving up just two hits.
Zack Walch led the way offensively for the Vikings, connected with three hits and two runs.
Evan Romeo and
Andrew Pendleton each had two hits.
Charles Stephenson (1-1) got the start in game three, pitching five innings, giving up just three hits, two runs and striking out three batters. Carnes earned his fifth save, coming in at a crucial time, giving up zero runs and zero hits to secure the 3-2 win. Macolino entered in the sixth for Stephenson and gave up just one hit.
The Vikings scored first in the first inning, going up 2-0 following a double from
Spence Johns to score Ja. Poist and a single from Calvert to score Johns. Berry added another run in the fifth from a single from Ja. Poist to score
Andrew Pendleton. Rhodes tried to come back late in the sixth, scoring two runs, but the Vikings were able to walk away with the win.
Rhodes took game four, 7-6. Several Vikings saw action at the mound;
Tanner Still got the start for Berry, pitching four innings and giving up three hits.
Andrew Norred came in for Still in the fifth and gave up four hits and four runs. Late in the sixth,
Milan Sutaria came in for relief for Norred, pitching 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and one run.
Will Marquart started the eighth inning on the mound, giving up three hits and two runs and putting the Lynx up 7-6. Marquart would earn his first loss of the season.
Koby Dunn would finish the game pitching.
Berry jumped out in front early on with a 1-0 lead in the first that increased to 4-0 in the third. Rhodes remained scoreless until the fifth when they added two runs to make it a 5-2 game. The Lynx went up 7-6 in the eighth to secure the win.
Johns and Calvert led with three hits and two RBI each.
