Rome, Ga. – The Berry College women's basketball team split their two-game weekend series against Birmingham-Southern over the weekend.
In the first game on Friday, the Vikings defeated the Panthers 87-63 following standout performances from
Madeline Sandman, who tallied 18 points and grabbed three rebounds, and
Mary Walters, who also had 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Berry pulled ahead 25-14 late in the first quarter and maintained a solid, double-digit lead throughout the entire game. As a team, the Vikings shot 55-percent (38-69) from the field while they held the Panthers to just 29-percent (19-66) from the field.
In game two, the Vikings fell 87-70 to BSC. The Panther's Brooke Westhoelter led all scorers with 19, while Berry's
Madeline Sandman added 18 points and
Mary Walters 15 for the Vikings.
Berry trailed by one, 34-33, at the half, but quickly took the lead to start the third quarter following a good layup from
Capri Frazier. However, missed shots and late fouls in the fourth gave the Panther just what they needed to regain the lead and, eventually, the victory.
Berry will host Oglethorpe this weekend for their final two games of the season.
