Birmingham, Ala. — The Berry College men's swimming and diving team took on Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps on Saturday each in a dual meet, while the women's swimming and diving team took on Millsaps, Birmingham-Southern and West Florida in dual meets.
On the men's side, Berry defeated Millsaps 156-33, but fell to BSC 170-72. The women topped Millsaps 160-70, but were edged by BSC 229-44 and UWF 250-43.
The Vikings had a few overall victories throughout the day. On the men' side, Michael Bemis shined in the 50-yard freestyle placing first overall and securing a finals time of 21.68, while Kenny Hunter placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a finals time of 49.16 and Alex Bartik placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a 57.03 time.
On the women's side, Haley Pietras, Becca Fulle, Sarah Baker and Simone Dixon placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
"What a great day to get the team back in the water and competing," said head coach Paul Flinchbaugh. "We had some great swims today and identified a few points of focus for the upcoming weeks before conference. Overall, I am so proud of the men and women of Viking Swimming and Diving, as they all truly continue to persevere, rise up and train hard in the face of the adversity presented by COVID."
Berry will travel to Sewanee next Saturday, January 30.
