Box Score ROME, Ga. — The Berry College softball team secured the series sweep of the Sewanee Tigers on Sunday, winning in a 10-0 run-rule final. Berry is now 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Lauren Baccari picked up the first win of her career, pitching 4.0 shutout innings and fanning four hitters. Abbey Gabmle tossed a hitless inning in relief.
Makenzie Flynt opened scoring in the first inning, sending her first home run of the year over the center field fence to put Berry up 2-0. The Vikings added another run in the second before a five-run third inning. Gamble hit a little-league home run to open scoring in the inning, after a base hit got away from the Sewanee center fielder allowing the Berry shortstop to come all the way home. Kiana Dale then hit an RBI single before Madison Morgan hit her second long ball of the series to put Berry up 8-0. The Vikings added two more in the fourth inning to secure the run-rule victor.
Berry opens competition at the highly-competitive NFCA Leadoff Classic on Friday.
