Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Berry College softball team closed competition at Huntingdon on Sunday afternoon, claiming a doubleheader sweep to finish the weekend 3-1.
The Vikings claimed a 5-3 win in the opening contest against Mt. Saint Joseph before a big 10-3 win over Huntingdon in the nightcap.
MSJ scored first in the opening game, but Berry scored five straight to go up 5-1 heading into the fourth inning. MSJ added a run in the fourth and fifth innings, but strong pitching from Abbey Gamble and Makenzie Flynt secured the win.
Berry struck first in game two, leading 3-0 before the Hawks added a run in the second inning. Heading into the sixth inning, Berry held a narrow 4-3 lead but broke the game open with five runs off RBI singles from Madison Morgan, Hannan Razeq, Makenzie Flynt and Sam Crabtree.
Berry's home opener is set for Feb. 29 against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Sewanee.
