Box Score ROME, Ga. — Zack Walch recorded a multi-hit game, but the Berry College baseball team slipped to 4-3 on the year with a 7-3 loss to Emory University on Wednesday night.
Garrett West took the loss, throwing 2.1 innings allowing three earned runs. Mason Carnes pitched well in relief, tossing 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. Emory's Joey Bock collected his first win of the year.
Emory made things hard for the Vikings on the basepaths, recording 10 stolen bases. The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning before Walch drove home Weston Bray in the third to cut into the lead. Berry had the bases loaded with no outs in the fourth inning, which Bray cashed in with a ground out. Berry stranded the remaining base runners to trail 4-2 heading to the fifth. The Eagles extended their lead, going up 6-2. Dalton Smith got one back in the seventh, but an Emory home run in the eight put the game away.
Berry travels to Maryville on Tuesday before opening conference play at Oglethorpe on Friday, Feb. 28.
