Box Score ROME, Ga. — Dalton Smith hit a two-RBI single in the fourth inning to tie the game, but strong pitching out of the Ferrum Panthers tripped up the Vikings baseball team on Friday night.
With the loss, Berry slips to 3-1 overall while Ferrum improved to 2-1.
The story of the evening was Ferrum's Drew Calohan who held the Vikings mostly in check through 7.2 innings pitched. He allowed a pair of earned runs, striking out five Berry hitters. Garrett West went 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and also fanning five.
Ferrum took a 2-0 lead in the second inning off a wild pitch and an error by the Vikings infield. Smith tied the game with a shot to center in the fourth, but a sacrifice fly in the fifth put the Panthers ahead for good.
Berry returns to action at home on Saturday at 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. against Greenville and Greensboro.
