Box Score 4 ROME, Ga. — The No. 9 Berry College volleyball team capped a dominant weekend at the Berry National Invitational with a slugfest against the No. 1 Emory University Eagles on Saturday afternoon, falling in five sets to the reigning national champions.
The Vikings finished 3-1 on the weekend with wins over No. 20 UMHB, No. 14 CNU and a hot Endicott team. Berry's record currently sits at 6-1 and now boast wins over three nationally ranked opponents.
In front of a packed Cage Center today, Berry welcomed Emory and took the Eagles to the brink. Emory secured the opening set 25-23 in a back-and-forth affair, and quickly went up 2-0 after claiming set two 25-22.
The Vikings then claimed set three 27-25 and were dominant in set four to force a fifth set. Berry went up 13-9 in the final set, but a veteran Emory team rallied to score the final six points and escape with the win.
Berry's Peyton Breissinger was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Vikings travel to the Wittenberg Fall Classic next weekend.
