Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. — Casey Whitaker hit a walk-off single in game one, giving the Berry College baseball team a series-opening split against the Emory & Henry Wasps on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings claimed game one 7-6 after falling behind by six runs. Berry then dropped game two 8-4 and now sit at 1-2 on the year.
GAME ONE:
E&H jumped out to a 3-0 lead in a forgettable opening frame for Berry. The Wasps then tacked on three more in the top of the fifth to hold a 6-0 lead.
Berry was able to score a run in the home half of the fifth off a sacrifice fly from Dylan Beasley before adding on two more in the sixth off an error and a single from Derrick Newman.
The Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the seventh off a Casey Whitaker double, a ground out RBI from Quinn Smith and heads-up baserunning from Whitaker to score on a wild pitch. Whitaker then singled up the middle in the bottom of the eighth to give the Vikings the walk-off victory.
GAME TWO:
Berry claimed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but would relinquish four runs in the second to the Wasps. The Vikings pulled within one in the second off the bat of Walch and a wild pitch, but E&H tacked on three more in the fourth to lead 7-3.
Reeve Holley had an RBI double in the home half of the fourth, but the Wasps scored an additional insurance run in the sixth to secure the win.
