LOOKOUT MTN., Ga. —The Berry College softball team start the season 2-0 for the third straight year and the fifth time in program history on Saturday afternoon, topping Covenant College 7-4 and 10-0 in a doubleheader sweep.
The Vikings tallied 26 hits total hits on the day and had strong pitching performances from sophomore Meredith Holland and junior Makenzie Flynt.
GAME ONE:
- The Vikings offense started off slow until the 3rd inning when Makenzie Flynt scored on an error.
- Kayla Sangrey reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the 4th and Madison Morgan brought her in on single. Abby Gamble then doubled and brought in Brooke Whittemore to expand the lead to 3-0.
- Covenant plated a pair in the botton of the fifth off a single and a double.
- The Vikings then scored four more runs in the 7th inning to close out the game 7-4.
- Meredith Holland earned the win with six innings pitched allowing five hits and fanning three batters.
GAME TWO:
- Berry struck first in the second game as well, opening a 3-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning. Kristin Hunt led the way with a bases clearing two RBI triple.
- The Vikings continued their offensive onslaught as they poured on the runs in the 6th and 7th innings putting up seven runs on nine hits.
- Katlin Seger led Berry offensively, she finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate with one 2B and two RBI.
- Makenzie Flynt earns the win (1-0) pitching six shutout innings allowing six hits and striking out three batters.

The Vikings will travel to Demorest, Ga. and play in the Piedmont tournament against the Averett University Cougars and Emory and Henry College Wasps Saturday afternoon at 2 & 4:00 p.m.
