Volleyball Earns Five Set Win at Sewanee on Friday

SEWANEE, Tenn. — The No. 10 Berry College volleyball team earned a five-set victory at Sewanee College on Friday night, keeping their No. 1 seed hopes alive for the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament.

With the win, the Vikings sit at 20-4 overall and 11-2 in SAA play. Sewanee fell to 15-9 and 7-6 in league play. Berry sits just a half game back from first place in the SAA, trailing Birmingham-Southern who is 11-1 heading into a matchup tomorrow against 9-2 Hendrix College. 

Berry fell behind 21-10 in the opening set, but pulled within two late 24-22. Sewanee secured the final point off a Constance Connolly kill to secure the opening set. The Vikings went on to win set two 25-15 courtesy of a .391 kill percentage. Berry then claimed set three 25-22 before a narrow 25-23 loss in the fourth. Berry dominated in the final set, hitting .381 and winning 15-6. 

Emily Hancock and Peyton Preissinger posted double-doubles in the outing. Hancock led the team with 17 kills and also posted 24 digs. Laura Beier played well, recording three service aces and 31 digs. Jordan Leitch earned eight kills and 54 assists. 

Berry closes SAA competition tomorrow at Centre.
