Baseball Advances to SAA Championship Series Over Millsaps 12-0

ROME, Ga. — Four Vikings had multiple hit outings, and Dylan Beasley (1-2) tossed 11 strikeouts across seven scoreless frames, as the Berry College baseball team rolled to a 12-0 victory over the visiting Millsaps Majors in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament this afternoon.

Berry advances to face the Rhodes College Lynx in the SAA championship series at home next weekend. With his two hits in the game, Jacob Delk has tied the Berry Division III era record for hits in a season at 65 as well.

Three separate RBI doubles in the first inning from Delk, Spence Johns and Casey Whitaker gave the Vikings an early 3-0 lead. Zach Walch would bring home Will Deems with a double of his own in the second inning to bring it to 4-0, and Berry stretched it out in the bottom of the fourth, piling on seven additional runs on eight hits to bring the score to 11-0. A fifth inning RBI single to right field from Whitaker would bring the final mark to 12-0.

Berry tallied 16 overall hits in the game, giving up eight hits while committing zero errors to ensure the 12-0 shutout victory.

Berry faces the Lynx of Rhodes College, who beat Centre 6-2 in their semi-final game, next weekend in the SAA championship series at William R. Bowdoin Field. Games are 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
