ROME, Ga. – The Berry College men's and women's tennis teams split with Rhodes College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup on Friday morning. The women's team bested the Lynx 6-3, while the men's team fell 5-4.
Matt Blakely and Chase Gooding earned the sole men's doubles victory in the No. 1 doubles spot, 8-3. Gooding (2-6, 7-5, 6-1), Jordan Crance (6-2, 5-7, 6-1) and Clay Jones (2-6, 6-3, 6-1) also rounded out men's scoring with wins in singles competition.
Both the No. 2 and No. 3 women's doubles team for Berry earned wins on the day as well, and Sydney Stone (6-1, 6-1) Sarah Murray (6-3, 6-1), Emmie Cornell (6-1, 6-0) and Karleigh Dills (6-3, 6-2) earned singles wins for the Vikings as well.
On the year, the men's team is now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The women's team improves to 6-3 and 1-1.
