Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. — The Berry College women's soccer team saw its season come to a close late Friday evening, as the Vikings fell to Rhodes College in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) semifinals on a 5-4 penalty kick decision.
The teams battled a full 110 minutes of scoreless soccer, and Berry was able to survive numerous game-winning opportunities from the Lynx in the shootout, eventually surrendering the game-winning shot on the ninth penalty kick round of the evening.
The game officially goes in the books as a 0-0 tie, giving Berry a 9-4-4 overall record for the 2018 season. That mark is Berry's best overall record since 2015 and the Vikings' 4-1-2 finish in SAA play is the best since the 2014 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Regulation play went back-and-forth. Berry fired three shots in both the first and second half, traling the game 11-7 in shots.
- The Vikings did force six corner kicks, holding the Lynx to just two.
- Freshman Alyssa Stevens was superb in goal, recording eight saves to preserve the shutout through 110:00 minutes.
- Berry trailed 3-1 after the first three rounds of PK's, but continued to battle until Olivia House scored the game-winner for Rhodes.
