Baseball Downs Reigning National Champion for Second Straight Win

JACKSON, Miss. - The Berry College baseball team earned its second-straight win today after a 5-4 victory over Trinity University (Tex.), the reigning national champions. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Vikings opened scoring in the bottom of the first, with Austin Haight getting on base with a walk. He would then advance to second on a wild pitch before stealing third. Slade Dale would then pick up an RBI to give Berry a 1-0 lead.
  • Trinity was unable to answer until the top of the third when they would add three runs off the bat of Oretsky, Morrison and Frampton.
  • Berry would then tack on four in the bottom of the third, three coming from a home run by Alfred Francis.
  • Trinity added the final run of the game in the top of the fourth off a sacrifice fly by Cormack.

NOTABLES:

  • Berry has now taken down two nationally ranked opponents, with Trinity being ranked in the top 10. 
  • Trey Rampy earned the win with William Gibbons earning the save.

UP NEXT:

  • The Vikings will take on No. 4 Emory on Wednesday, another nationally ranked opponent.
