Volleyball Defeats Washington & Lee 3-0

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College volleyball team opened play in their five team invitational tournament with a 3-0 win over Washington & Lee University on Friday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Vikings hit .244 to the Generals' .142.
  • Berry added 4 blocks, while Washington & Lee had none.
  • The Vikings hit .364 as a team in the final set to clinch the victory. 

BERRY STATISTICAL STANDOUTS

  • Christina Goforth: 10 kills, .526 attack %
  • Jessica Gum: 9 kills, 3 blocks, and 2 digs
  • Hannah Kate Thompson: 32 assists, 3 kills, 2 digs
  • Katie Truluck: 19 digs, 1 assist

WASHINGTON & LEE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS

  • Meg Guignon: 9 kills, 2 assists, 14 digs
  • Allison Webb: 8 kills, 4 blocks, .273 attack %
  • Elena West: 29 assists, 13 digs, 6 kills

NOTABLES

  • The Vikings held on to win all three sets by less than five points.
  • Washington & Lee had two more kills than Berry (42-40,), yet the Vikings' attack percentage was higher in all three sets.
  • Berry remains undefeated on the season.

UP NEXT

The Vikings (2-0) continue their play in the invitational with two games tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. Berry will take on Covenant College in the first game, followed by a match against Maryville College at 3:30 p.m.
