ROME, Ga. - - Ben Jernigan led the game with four hits--three of which were doubles--but the Berry College baseball team lost to Birmingham-Southern College, 6-3, on Friday night.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 25-12 overall and 11-8 in the Southern Athletic Association. The win improved the Panthers to 27-9 and 15-4.

Jernigan's four hits led the Berry offense. Jernigan also scored once in the loss. Four other BC players added a hit on the night: Dusty Tyson, Alfred Francis, Brady Smith and Greg Keel.

Grant Perkins and Francis added the final BC RBIs.

BSC opened their scoring in the top of the fourth inning, going ahead 4-0. BC answered and cut the lead in half by the end of the inning.

The Panthers then tacked on a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings.

The Vikings then added one run in the ninth inning. Berry loaded up the bases with only one out but reliever Wilson Jamison got Francis to fly out and then Jernigan grounded out to first base to end the game.

For Birmingham-Southern, Tyler Wise led the offense with three hits in the win. Wise was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored.

TJ Montgomery (6-4) took the loss on the mound for Berry, tossing six and 2/3 innings for the Vikes. Montgomery allowed 12 hits and five runs in the outing, while striking out two.

Berry will finish the series against BSC tomorrow. First pitch of a doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at William R. Bowdoin Field.
