Baseball Edged in Rain-Shortened Game vs. Emory

ROME, Ga. – Six players had hits in the outing, but the Berry College baseball team lost to Emory University, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon. The game lasted only 7.5 innings due to inclement weather.

The loss dropped the 21st-ranked Vikings to 12-2 overall. The win improved the #3 Eagles to 10-2 on the season.

Emory jumped to an early lead, scoring all four of their runs by the end of the second inning.

Berry answered, opening up the game with two runs in the second inning. Kris Patel knocked in the final BC run with an RBI single into right center to score Casey Whitaker in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Neither team scored again for the remainder of the game.

For the Vikings, Alfred Francis, Slade Dale, Whitaker, Jacob Delk, Patel and Grant Perkins each added one hit in the loss. 

Perkins had the only extra base hit for the Vikes, hitting a double in the bottom of the second to score Greg Keel.

Ben Jernigan (1-1) took the loss on mound for Berry. Jernigan tossed 4 1/3 innings for the Vikings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs on the night.

For the Eagles, both Chris Slivka and Philip Maldari contributed two hits apiece in the win. Maldari, Brian Hernandez and Wilson Morgan each knocked in RBIs as well.

Berry hosts Transylvania in their next game on Saturday, March 5. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at William R. Bowdoin Field.
