ROME, Ga. – Kassie Howard recorded the Berry College softball program's first no-hitter as the softball team won both of their games in a doubleheader against Sewanee on Saturday. The Vikings took the first game 14-1, and the second game 9-0 to complete the three-game sweep.
The wins improved the Vikings to 6-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Tigers moved to 0-3.
Kayla Sangrey, Sarah Gordon and Karlie Jarrett led the BC offense in the first game, as they each recorded three hits apiece.
The game remained close until the second inning, when Berry scored nine runs. The Vikes recorded 15 hits in the victory.
Allie Coronado (1-1) earned the complete-game win on the mound in game one. She allowed only one hit in her five innings of work.
For Sewanee, Caroline Holmes led the Tigers with the sole hit of the game.
Howard (4-0) earned the win on the mound in the second game for BC. She pitched a five-inning no-hitter. Howard recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed only one walk in the game.
Elisabeth Federici and Bethany Hunt led the Berry offense with two hits apiece. Shakarah Boswell, Genna Telschow and Jarrett each added one hit in the win as well.
Berry will return to Ford Field on Tuesday, Feb. 23 for a double-header against Covenant College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
