ROME, Ga. – Dusty Tyson singled to right field in the bottom of the tenth inning to score Greg Keel, as the Berry College baseball team defeated LaGrange College, 6-5, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Vikings remain undefeated with the win, improving to 4-0 overall. The Panthers fall to 3-1.
Alfred Francis led the BC offense, batting 2-for-4 on the day, with one run. Jacob Delk (1-for-3, RBI) also contributed a double for the Vikes. Slade Dale and Kris Patel each added an RBI in the win as well.
For LC, both Blane Swift and Keith Sims were 2-for-4 at the plate. Swift added a double and a triple in the loss, as well as two RBIs. Sims had a walk and a run.
Ben Jernigan started the game on the mound for Berry, pitching five complete innings. Jernigan allowed five hits, two runs, two walks and struck out one in the outing. He allowed one earned and an unearned run.
JP Chamblee (1-0) earned his first win of the season on the mound, pitching the last two and one-third innings for the Vikes. Chamblee allowed only one hit and one walk, striking out one in the win.
For the Panthers, Austin Perez (1-1) took the loss on the mound.
LC outhit BC, 11-7, in the contest, while the Vikings earned nine walks to the Panthers' three.
The Vikings will host Guilford College in their next game. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. The contest was originally scheduled at Guilford, but was moved due to expected frigid weather.
