ATLANTA, Ga. - - In their first Southern Athletic Association match of the season, the Berry College women's soccer team defeated Oglethorpe University, 3-0, on Monday afternoon.
The win improved the Vikes to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAA. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-5 and 0-1.
Maggie Midkiff scored her sixth goal of the season in the 19th minute. Connecting on a long pass down the center of the field from Lindsey Danford, Midkiff's goal put the Vikings ahead, 1-0.
Samantha Schoppy scored the second BC goal in the 23nd minute off a deflected shot from Michaela Routh. The goal was the last of the half, leaving the score at, 2-0.
The third goal came in the 46th minute, as Danford found the back of the net off of a long pass down the center from Michaela Routh. The tally was the last of the game, rounding out the, 3-0, Berry victory.
The Stormy Petrel's Sarah Craig earned six saves and the loss in her forty-five minutes of work. Bailey Evans finished in the net for OU, earned one save, and allowing one goal.
Melissa Sanchez had two saves in the win.
Berry led the game in shots (29-4) and corner kicks (6-1).
The Vikes will host Agnes Scott in their next match on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Ford Field.
