BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - - In the Vikings' first Southern Athletic Association match-up of the year, the Berry College volleyball team fell to Birmingham-Southern College, 3-0, on Saturday night. Set scores were 25-15, 25-19, and 25-23.
The loss dropped BC to 8-3 overall and 0-1 in the SAA. The win improved BSC to 9-1 and 2-0.
Jessica Gum had 10 kills and hit .526 to lead the Vikes' offense. Emily Stromberg added seven kills in the loss as well. Lauren Schmitz also dished 25 assists in the match.
For the defense, Katie Truluck and Stromberg had nine digs apiece.
Marjorie Ward's eight kills led the Panthers' offense. Lauren Bedford also added 16 digs in the victory for BSC.
"Birmingham-Southern did a great job staying aggressive and keeping us out of system," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "We will learn from this match and work to improve tomorrow."
The Vikings will travel to Jackson, Miss., to play Millsaps College in their next SAA contest on Sunday, September 20 at 3 p.m.
