Box Score CONWAY, Ark. -- Hendrix College avoided a 3-game sweep after defeating Berry College, 3-1, on Sunday.
The Warriors improved to 16-16 and 7-11 in Southern Athletic Association action. The Vikings moved to 20-15-1 and 10-7-1 in the SAA.
The Warriors plated 2 runs off starter Ben Jernigan in the third inning and added another in the seventh. Jernigan (4-5) took the defeat despite earning a complete game. He allowed 9 hits, recorded 7 strikeouts and walked no batters.
Berry recorded its run in the top of the ninth when Ryan Smith brought home Alfred Francis on a sacrifice fly. The Vikes had bases loaded with 2 outs when Harley Faye got Will Baumgartner to strick out looking to end the game.
Faye earned a save for Hendrix. Darrel Imbro improved to 4-3 after tossing 8 1/3 innings and earning the victory.
Alex McGill went 2-for-4 to lead BC hitters. Drew Judson was 3-of-4 with a double to pace HC.
The Vikings host Oglethorpe on Friday night.
