Softball wins two at Hendrix on Saturday

CONWAY, Ark. -- The Berry College softball team swept a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader on Saturday at Hendrix College. The Vikings won by 5-1 and 9-2 scores.

Berry moved to 24-6 and 14-2 in the SAA. Hendrix is now 10-17 and 6-9 in conference.

In game one, Berry trailed 1-0 heading to the fifth inning. The visiting Vikings, however, plated 5 runs to seal the game. The big inning was highlighted by Kenzie Fleming's single which brought home 2 runners.

BC outhit Hendrix, 11-1. Sarah Moore was 3-4 with an RBI to lead BC hitters. Ally Claytor and Kylie Aiken both had a single and a double.

Kassie Howard improved to 14-1 on the year after the complete-game victory. She allowed one run, a hit, struck out 8 and walked one Warrior. 

In the nightcap, the visitors recorded a 9-2 win. The Warriors again took an early 1-0 lead, but Berry plated 4 runs in the third frame and never looked back.

The Vikes had 15 hits to HC's 10 in the contest. Marie Collop was the hitting star for Berry in game 2. She went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and 3 RBI. Brittany Ferrell was 3-of-4 and scored twice for the visitors.

Allie Coronado and Kayla Davis shared time in the pitching circle for BC. Coronado (6-3) started and earned the win after tossing 5 innings. Davis hurled the last 2 innings for Berry.

The teams play another SAA doubleheader on Sunday.
