Baseball sweeps twin bill at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. -- The Berry College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Hendrix College on Saturday. The Vikings won by scores of 10-4 and 6-4.

Berry is now 20-16-1 and 10-6-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. Hendrix fell to 15-16 and 6-11 in SAA play.

The Vikings prevailed in the first game, 10-4. BC recorded 13 hits to HC's 12. The Vikings scored twice in the second inning and never trailed in the contest.

First baseman Ben Jernigan had a big game at the plate in the game. He was 4-for-5 with 2 doubles, a home run and 3 RBI. Alex McGill went 3-4 with a double and scored twice. Alfred Francis had a single and 2-base hit for the visitors.

Tyler Will entered for starter Ryan O'Connell and earned the win. Will is now 2-0 on the year and did not allow a run in his 1 2/3 innings of work. Glen Williamson tossed 2 scoreless frames to close the game for Berry.

Ryan Ritz and Drew Judson each collected 3 hits for the Warriors.

In the nightcap, the Vikings held off the Warriors, 6-4.

The Vikings broke the game open with 5 runs in the fourth inning. BC stroked 5 hits in the frame, which was highlighted by a single by Francis that scored 2 runs.

Ryan Smith (2-for-3) was the only Viking with 2 hits in the 7-inning game. Both clubs had 7 hits in the game.

TJ Montgomery started for Berry on the hill. Parker Austin (2-1) took over in the fourth inning, allowed a run, 2 hits and earned the win. Joey Bell pitched the final frame for Berry.

Matt Simmons went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI to lead Hendrix batters. 

The teams close their SAA 3-game series on Sunday.
