Box Score 2 LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Berry College softball team opened the 2015 season with a split at Covenant on Saturday. The Scots took game one, 12-6, and the Vikings rebounded to win the nightcap, 19-7, in five innings.
In game two, the Vikings busted out for 24 hits and defeated the Scots in five innings. Berry knocked four home runs and collected 10 extra base hits in the romp.
Sarah Moore led BC offense by going 4-5 with, a home run three runs and three RBI. Brittany Tuttle, Brooke Mackelburg, and Rachel Bartoe collected three hits apiece for the Vikes. Bartoe had a home run and a triple in the contest. Kenzie Fleming and Allison DeBusk also homered for BC.
Kassie Howard tossed two innings of hitless relief to earn her first collegiate win.
In the first game, Covenant plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning en-route to the 12-6 victory. The Scots outhit BC 12-6 in the contest.
Marie Collop started for BC and took the loss. She pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed 10 of CC's 12 runs.
DeBusk went 2-4 with a double and two RBI to lead Viking hitters. Kylie Aiken hit her first collegiate home run and went 1-4 at the plate.
Berry hosts Piedmont College next Saturday. The home-opening doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
