Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Two Regional Wins

ATLANTA -- The Berry College volleyball team ended regular season play in fine fashion on Saturday at the Emory Invitational. The Vikings picked up regional wins over Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon, both by scores of 3-1.

BC opened the day's play with a 17-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-11 win over Bridgewater (8-21). After a slow start, Berry hit .233 in the match to the Eagles' .103.

Jessica Gum recorded a team-best 11 kills, hit .500 and had eight blocks. Lauren Schmitz notched 32 assists in the contest, surpassing the 2,000 assist milestone as a Viking.

BC prevailed after set scores of 27-25, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-17 against R-MC (22-7). Katie O'Rourke--later selected to the all-tournament team--posted a match-best 18 kills, hit .375 and added six blocks for the Vikes.

Gum and Micayla Bedoian added 12 and 11 kills respectively. Gum hit an impressive .417 in the victory. Katie Truluck led Berry on defense with 20 digs.

The Vikings hit .280 to the Yellow Jackets' .113.

"The two wins today were important regional wins," said Head Coach Mika Robinson."Both Bridgewater and Randolph Macon did a great job challenging us, and we could not have asked for better preparation for the postseason."

Berry is 23-6 heading to next weekend's SAA Tournament in Conway, Ark.
