Vikes shutout by Centre, 3-0

ROME, Ga. - - Melissa Sanchez notched a career-high 13 saves, but the Berry College women's soccer team fell to Centre College, 3-0, on Sunday. 

The Senior Day loss dropped the Vikes to 9-5-1 and 4-3 in the Southern Athletic Association. The win improved the Colonels to 14-0-1 and 6-0-1. 

Sanchez took the loss in goal for the Vikes, garnering 13 saves and allowing three goals in her 90 minutes of work. 

Rachel Harris, Alex Combs and Destinie Graves each scored for Centre.

Harris scored in the 39th minute, finding the back of the net in the far right-hand corner of the goal. The tally put the Colonels ahead, 1-0, at the half. 

Combs' goal came in the forty-seventh minute off a pass from Mackenzie Kern. The cross-net shot gave Centre a, 2-0, lead.

The Colonels' final goal of the game came in the eighty-first minute off of a PK following a foul in the box. Graves' tally finished the game with Centre ahead, 3-0. 

Centre led the game in both shots (21-6) and corner kicks (11-3).

The Vikings will play their next match in the first round of the SAA Tournament next Saturday, Oct. 31. Fourth-seeded BC host Birmingham-Southern at a to-be-determined time.
