ROME, Ga. - - With an overtime goal by Tessa Piety, the Berry College women's soccer team defeated Birmingham-Southern College, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The win was the fifth in a row for the Vikes, moving them to 8-2-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Southern Athletic Association. The loss dropped the Panthers to 7-5 and 2-2.
The score remained tied, 0-0, going into the second half.
BSC scored their only goal of the game in the sixty-eighth minute. Felicity Barnett's unassisted tally from 35 yards out gave the Panther's a 1-0 lead.
The Vikes followed with a quick goal of their own in the seventy-first minute. Assisted from Emily Nixon, Samantha Schoppy found the back of the net, evening the score at one apiece.
Neither team scored again during regulation.
Piety then found the back of the net in the ninety-fourth minute. Scoring on a free kick from 35-yards, Piety's goal sealed the Vike's 2-1 victory.
Berry led the game in shots (18-4), while both teams had two corner kicks in the match.
Jackie McGivney earned the win in goal, collecting one save in her ninety-four minutes of work.
The Vikes look to move their winning streak to six games, as they travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on Hendrix College on Oct. 11. Game start is scheduled for 6 p.m.
