Vikings dropped two at Transy

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Berry College volleyball lost two matches to open the Transylvania Invitational on Friday night.

In the opener, Covenant defeated BC, 3-2. The host Pioneers prevailed in the nightcap, 3-1.

Against Transy, Katie O'Rourke recorded a match-best 21 kills for the visitors. O'Rourke, who missed the opening weekend due to injury, hit .349 and added two blocks.

Set scores against Transylvania were 23-25, 25-22, 26-24 and 25-17. Emily Stromberg had nine kills and 20 digs. Lauren Schmitz dished 40 assists for the Vikings.

Set scores against Covenant were 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25 and 15-10. Katie Truluck had 30 digs and Stromberg added 17 kills and 18 digs.

"I thought Covenant did a great job serving--which kept us out of our system--and they out-worked us at critical points," said Head Coach Mika Robinson. "Against Transylvania, I was extremely proud of how hard we battled despite the late start and short turnaround time."

The Vikings (2-4) play Millikin (10:30 a.m.) and Juniata (12:30 p.m.) on Saturday to close out play at the Transylvania Tournament.
