Men's soccer won at Averett, 5-1

DANVILLE, Va. -- Evan Echols scored twice as Berry College won at Averett, University, 5-1, on Saturday. The five goals were a season-high for Berry.

The Vikings improved to 6-3 and the Cougars dropped to 1-6.

Zak Wallingford assisted BC's two first half goals. The first was to Echols in the 21st minute. Christian Fulbright tallied from Wallingford in the 38th minute. The score remained 2-0 at the break.

Echols then tallied in the 65th off a pass from Alex Rotoloni. Ben Ebersole made the score 4-0 in the 85th minute.

The Cougars then responded with a goal by Christopher Koenig a minute later. Daniel Shaw recorded the match's final goal at the 88:00 mark off an assist from Fulbright.

The Vikings led in shots (23-13) and corner kicks (5-2).

Jon Nelson allowed no goals in 72:09 minutes and earned the win. Zach Wroblewski played the last 17:51 minutes in the nets for Berry.

"This was a very solid win," said Berry Head Coach Richard Vardy."We created a lot of chances and nice to cap a good road trip with five goals. It was good for the young guys to score today after so many tight games recently."
