Volleyball sweeps Oglethorpe to open SAA play

ATLANTA – Berry College opened Southern Athletic Association play with a 3-0 win at Oglethorpe University on Wednesday night. Set scores were 25-19, 25-9, 25-14.

Lauren Schmitz paced the Vikings with 30 assists. Katie O'Rourke recorded a match-high 10 kills while hitting .400 for BC. Emily Stromberg and Elizabeth Ragland earned 12 and 11 digs respectively.

BC hit .270 for the match to OU's .050.

"Tonight was a great start to our conference schedule," said BC Head Coach Mika Robinson." Oglethorpe had a great crowd tonight, and it was a fun environment. In sets two and three, our offense really started clicking, and our blocking improved tremendously. We look forward to finally being back in The Cage this weekend after a long couple of weeks on the road."

For Oglethorpe (8-4, 0-1) Gianna Zitello had a match-best 13 digs.

Berry (5-8, 1-0) hosts Birmingham-Southern and Maryville on Saturday.
