ROME, Ga - - Berry College dominated in ball possession and shots as they defeated Wesleyan College, 8-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Capturing their third win in a row, Berry improved to 5-1. Wesleyan (Georgia) dropped to 0-5. The shutout was the fifth of the year for BC.
Sara Dillon had two goals and one assist and freshman Bella Fornuto dished three assists. Seven different players added goals in the win including three freshmen: Michaela Routh, Christina Rentas, and Sydney Sheppard.
"Today was a great chance to get everyone playing time," said Berry Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "We started 11 new players in the second half, and I thought that group was exceptional."
The first goal of the game came in the 13th minute with a shot by Dillon that was deflected into the corner. Rachel LeRoy earned the assist on the scoring play.
The second goal came six minutes later as Dillon assisted Maggie Midkiff, who finished into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. Dillon added another goal, as well as Rachel LeRoy, assisted by Caitlin Crawford, to finish off the first half, with a 4-0 lead.
Opening up the second half with a shot into the upper left corner just before the 48th minute, Michela Routh quickly put the Vikings up 5-0. Ashley Moulton scrambled off a corner kick to add to the lead once again, making it 6-0 by the 52nd minute. Rentas and Sheppard rounded off the scoring with their first collegiate goals coming in the 56th and 72nd minutes respectively.
Fornuto helped spark the offense as she added assists on three of the four second half goals, the fourth coming from Hailey Hendrickson on Sheppard's goal.
Centara Nulf led Wesleyan College with 10 saves on the day. Abby Stephens played the last 45 minutes and stopped seven Berry shots.
Jackie McGivney started and got the win in goal for Berry. Maggie Piety played goalkeeper in the second half for the home team.
The Vikings look to get their fourth win in a row as they travel to play Emory University at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles (2-0-2) are ranked sixth in the NSCAA national poll.
