Rome, GA.—Berry College (23-7, 12-2) took a doubleheader and the swept four-game series against Hendrix College (13-13, 7-6) today. The Vikings took the first game, 5-3, and the second game, 9-1
In game one, it was a pitching duel between the Warriors, Kayla Patton (9-7)--and the Vikes, Kayla Davis (9-2). Davis picked up the win with strong support of the BC offense. She pitched all seven innings, gave up three runs, struck out three and walked one.
Marie Collop and Shelby Smith each crushed a home run in the bottom of the third inning. Smith roped a double, and Collop received a single to each finish the game 2-3 with one RBI. Abby Daniels went 2-3 as well with a double and a single. Rachel Bartoe collected her second triple of the season.
For HC, Shelby Anderson drove in two runs, and Morgan Fires and Victoria Hughes went 2-3 with two singles a piece.
In the second game, Allie Coronado (7-3) picked up the win, and Hope Resor (2-5) got pinned with the loss. Berry blew the game wide open with a six-run sixth inning that forced the game to be called due to the eight-run rule.
Coronado went four strong innings giving up five hits and only giving up one run. Andrea Cole pitched the last two scoreless innings.
Smith continued her success into game two by crushing her seventh home run of the year. She finished 3-4 with a homer, double, and drove in two runs. Allison DeBusk went three for three with a double and two singles.
Sarah Moore went 2-3 and picked up three RBI with her mother, Kelly Moore, supporting her in the stands. It was Pink Day at Ford Field and Kelly Moore, who has been battling cancer, was recognized before the game. The Vikings wore pink jerseys, held an auction and a raffle to raise money to battle cancer.
Berry will travel to Centre to square off against the Colonels in a four game series on April 12th and 13th.
