Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. -- Berry College split a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader on Saturday. The Vikings took the first game, 5-4, in 11 innings. Hendrix prevailed in the seven-inning nightcap, 6-3.
Berry is now 20-10 and 9-5 in the SAA. The Warriors moved to 16-12, 8-6.
In game one, pinch-hitter Nick Stidham hit a sacrifice fly to score Ryan Smith in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Berry to the win. Smith had doubled earlier in the inning.
The Vikings came from behind in the contest. BC trailed 4-0 before plating four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alex McGill and Will Heard both had two hits for the home team.
Chad Busby (3-1) earned the win for the Vikes. He tossed the last three frames, allowed no runs and gave up two hits.
Collin Radack and Thomas Weber each had three hits for the Warriors. HC outhit BC, 10-9.
In the nightcap, the home team scored three times in the first inning before Hendrix tied the score in the third inning.
The game stayed 3-3 until seventh frame when HC scored three runs off losing pitcher Chad Busby (3-2). Grant Perkins and Sam Joyce singled in the bottom of the inning and the Vikings had the tying run at the plate. Stidham pinch hit again, but his line drive was caught and Perkins was doubled off second base. Doug Heath then grounded out for the game's final out.
Joyce went 2-3 for and Heard had three RBI for Berry. Ryan Ritz collected three hits for the Warriors.
Berry and Hendrix play one game at 12 p.m. on Sunday. The contest was moved up one hour due to expected rain.
