ROME, Ga. -- In another exciting SAA Tournament game, Berry defeated Rhodes 3-2.

In a pitcher's duel, Rhodes sent out their star pitcher Blake Glauben, who in the regular season compiled a 7-2 record. He also captured the lowest ERA on the team with a 1.83. Ryan O'Connell started for the Vikings. In the regular season, O'Connell had a 4.35 with a record of (5-0). However, Joey Bell relieved O'Connell in the eighth inning with the game tied at 2. Bell held the game pitching the rest of the game without giving up a run in the 1 2/3 innings pitched.

"O'Connell made a few adjustments and pitched well as the game went on," said Head Coach David Beasley. "We held Bell and O'Connell out of yesterday's game (11-10 win over Oglethorpe) because we needed them today."

Berry came with clutch hitting by Alex McGill and Zach Farmer. Farmer roped a RBI double to break the tie in bottom of the eighth. Farmer finished with three hits and three RBIs. McGill finished with two hits in the ball game. TC Boyd and Alfred Francis each had a hit, and they each touched home once.

For the Lynx, Will Gietema and Patrick Kilkenny each had three hits in the game. Kilkenny touched home twice and plated a run. Justin Genter and Walker McWherter each added on with a pair of hits in the game.

"We beat Rhodes, so this put us in a good position," said Beasley. "We have had a good crowd and since we are home tomorrow and someone else has to win twice tomorrow, it's ideal for us."

Berry advances to the next round and will play the Rhodes College again. Berry needs one win and the Lynx need two to win the Rome, Ga. bracket and advance to next week's best of three championship.
