ROME, Ga. — Berry defeated Maryville College, 8-1, and claimed the highest amount of wins in a season since the Vikings transitioned to Division III. Berry finished its regular season at 27-13, while Maryville dropped to 16-19.
In the final game of the regular season, five of the six graduating seniors were able to touch the field in their last game. Seniors, Zach Farmer and Austin Neely, had an impressive outings. Farmer tallied three hits with two singles and a double. He touched home twice in the matchup. Neely picked up a pair of base knocks with a run and a RBI. Grant Perkins matched with two hits of his own while plating two runs and scoring twice.
Freshman Sam Joyce joined in on the action with a double and single of his own.
Berry sent out seven different pitchers in the game. TJ Montgomery (4-4) started the game and picked up the win. Montgomery went two innings and gave up three hits with a strikeout. Joey Bell went two innings striking out three and giving up the lone run for Maryville. Of the seven pitchers, six of them recorded at least one strikeout. Combined, the Viking pitching staff collected nine strikeouts.
Joe Jones got pinned with his first loss on the season and finished with a record of 3-1. Nick Dean and Zack Blonder cracked five of the eight total hits for the Scots. Blonder picked up the lone run on a RBI single to score Dean.
Berry College looks to host part of the Southern Athletic Association playoffs. The Vikings face Oglethorpe on April 25 at 6 p.m. Berry won two of the three games this season at OU.
BC also hosts Rhodes and Centre in the SAA playoffs. Those two clubs play at 2 p.m. to open the action at William R. Bowdoin Field.
