Baseball splits with Rhodes

Rome, GA-- Berry College and Rhodes College split the double header on Saturday. Rhodes won the first game 4-3, while Berry took the second game 13-3.

Berry improved to 23-11 overall and 11-6 in conference, and Rhodes moved their record to 26-8 and 12-5 in conference. Game one was a pitching duel, while game two was an offensively strong game for the home team. 

In the opener, starter Ben Jernigan (7-2) tossed seven and a third innings spreading out six hits by only giving up four runs. Chad Busby came from the bullpen to finish the game by only giving up a lone hit.

TC Boyd had a strong game getting three hits out of four at bats. Boyd tallied three singles while scoring two of the runs off a single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Will Heard, Sam Joyce, and Alex McGill all went one for three in the matchup. 

The Lynx starting pitcher, Blake Glauben, pitched a complete game while striking out seven Vikings and only giving up three runs. Andrew Wallis went 2-4 with two RBIs, and Strother White collected a hit of his own with a run and RBI.

In game two, Rhodes and Berry cracked a total of 17 hits and 16 runs in the game. 

McGill continued his success going 2-5 with a three run homer and a single. He is on an eight game hitting streak dating back to March 28th. Joyce smoked two hits of his three at bats while scoring once and plating an RBI. The Viking squad recorded nine runs batted in from six different players. 

Ryan O'Connell started for BC going all seven innings allowing eights hits giving up two earned runs with two strikeouts in the game. O'Connell improved to 5-0 on the season.

Bill Munson went two for four with an RBI, and Marcus Moreland went one for two with an RBI and a run.

The Vikings and Lynx play the rubber game of the series on Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m. at William R. Bowdoin Field.
