Box Score ROME, Ga. -- Birmingham-Southern College edged Berry College, 3-2, in the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers improved to 19-4 and 10-2 in the SAA. BC moved to 16-7, 6-3.
The game was a pitchers' duel with no runs through the first seven innings. BC's TJ Montgomery (3-2) took the loss. He scattered five hits and allowed one run in eight innings. BSC's Miles Nordgren improved to 3-1 after the complete game victory.
The visitors plated one run in the eighth of Montgomery. BSC added two more in the ninth off reliever Danny Parry.
In the bottom of the ninth, Alex McGill and Austin Neely singled with one out. McGill came home on a ground out by Alfred Francis. Will Heard then singled in Neely before Doug Heath grounded out to third base to end the game.
Heard had two of the Berry's seven hits. Taylor McCracken went 2-4 and had a double--the only extra base hit in the contest--for the Panthers. BSC also knocked seven hits in the game.
Berry plays at Maryville on Tuesday.
