Baseball splits vs. Oglethorpe

ATLANTA -- Bern Jernigan pitched a complete game and led Berry College to an 8-2 win in the nightcap of a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader at Ogelthorpe on Saturday. BC earned a spilt on the day as the Vikings lost game one, 8-7.

Jernigan allowed two runs, scattered seven hits and improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Vikes tacked on two runs in the first inning, and broke the game open after plating four in the fourth frame. Nick Stidham went 2-3, scored one run, doubled and had three RBI for BC. Stephen Gaylor added two hits and stole a base for the visitors.

In game one, Berry nearly rallied back from an 8-1 deficit. Trailing by seven runs in the seventh inning, the Vikings plated five runs. BC added a single run in the ninth and had pinch runner McTier Mosley on third base with two outs. Grant Perkins, however, grounded out to third base to end the game.

TC Boyd, Perkins and Gaylor all had two hits apiece in the game. Doug Heath (0-1) started, pitched two innings, allowed four runs and took the loss. Zach Dutton tossed three innings of scoreless relief for BC.

Berry (7-4, 1-1 SAA) plays Oglehorpe (5-4, 1-1) at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
