Vikes fall at BSC in four sets

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Emily Stromberg had 30 digs and surpassed the 1,000 dig mark for her career, but Berry College lost at Birmingham Southern, 3-1, on Friday night. Set scores were 18-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-21.

The Panthers moved to 19-10 and 9-4 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Vikings are even with BSC in the SAA at 9-4 and dropped to 14-12 overall.

Anna Keappler had a match-high 20 kills for the visitors. Katie O'Rourke notched 11 kills and had seven blocks (one solo). Lauren Schmitz dished 31 assists for BC.

After losing the first set  the Vikings rallied to win the second set. Led by the serving arm of O'Rourke, BC pounded out five unanswered points to surpass the Panthers and take the second set, 26-24.

"We played really streaky tonight," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "We had streaks of brilliance and then streaks of high-error play. However, I was very proud of the fight they showed in every set tonight. We will continue to build towards the conference tournament."

Lynsie Byrd recorded 19 digs to pace BSC, which outhit the Vikings .226 to .194. 

The Vikings look to pick up their next win against Millsaps on Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi at 4 p.m.
